Living Righteously in an Unjust World
“I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.”
—Galatians 5:10 (KJV)
Injustice is a painful reality of this world, and we often wonder why God allows it to happen. It’s easy to question His sovereignty when we see or experience mistreatment. However, we must remember that God grants free will, and unfortunately, some choose to misuse it. God does not command people to harm others—that is their choice, and they will one day answer for their actions.
But while we cannot control others, we can control how we respond. We are called to walk upright, even when facing injustice. It’s not about ignoring the hurt or pretending the pain isn’t real—God sees our struggles and gives us the strength to endure. That strength is found in Him, through His Word and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus doesn’t always change our circumstances, but He teaches us how to live righteously in a broken world. This means being Christ on location—watching what we say, how we react, and how we treat others. Our words and actions may be the very thing that draws someone to God. As Paul reminds us, we must die daily (1 Corinthians 15:31), surrendering our fleshly desires and walking in the Spirit.
Walking in the Spirit
“And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
—Galatians 5:24-25 (KJV)
The works of the flesh—anger, hatred, strife—are easy to fall into when faced with injustice (Galatians 5:19-21). But God calls us higher. Instead of responding with bitterness, we are to bear the fruit of the Spirit: love, patience, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). This is not always easy, but it is the path to true peace.
Taking Up Our Cross
“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
—Matthew 16:24 (KJV)
Following Christ means denying our natural instincts for retaliation and choosing His way instead. Every day, we must decide to respond in love, to walk in the Spirit, and to trust that God sees all things. His justice will prevail in His perfect timing.
Prayer:
Lord, in a world full of injustice, help me to respond as You would. Strengthen me to walk in the Spirit, to reflect Your love, and to trust in Your perfect justice. Let my life be a witness that draws others closer to You. Amen.
